Improve the Shining Moments

Improve the shining moments;

Don’t let them pass you by.

Work while the sun is radiant;

Work, for the night draws nigh.

We cannot bid the sunbeams

To lengthen out their stay,

Nor can we ask the shadow

To ever stay away.

Time flies on wings of lightning;

We cannot call it back.

It comes, then passes forward

Along its onward track.

And if we are not mindful,

The chance will fade away,

For life is quick in passing.

‘Tis as a single day.

~From a hymn by Robert Baird

Remember to use your time wisely, folks!

Happy Mail

June 27, 2008

 Here is some happy mail that arrived in my mailbox recently. Oh the joy of getting a magazine or catalog to cozy up in you favorite chair with. The one on top is the newest Love to Learn catalog. It’s one of my all time favorites. There are so many great books, tips, and products offered by this company. They’re even offering free shipping if you live in one of the 48 contiguous states for orders of $29 or more. (What a deal!) and their handling charge is only $1.99 for all orders. Gotta love that! Did you receive any happy mail this week? I sure hope so!

History Linky-Linky

June 27, 2008

Greenleaf Press sells some amazing history books! Be sure to give them a lookie-lookie! Even if you don’t buy their books, you can use their helpful book reviews to jot down the names of great books to find at your local library. If you scroll down to May 24, 2008 you’ll find a review called Did Fleming Rescue Chruchill, which is a unique story that includes elements about Internet research. I may buy that one for Brother eventually. I hope you find this linky-linky helpful.

Suggestions for living less stressfully from Helen Nearing in her memoir Loving and Leaving the Good Life (from Sarah Ban Breathnach’s Simple Abundance book)

Do the best you can, whatever arises.

Be at peace with yourself.

Find a job you enjoy.

Live in simple conditions; housing, food, clothing; get rid of clutter.

Contact nature every day; feel the earth under your feet.

Take physical exercise through hard work; through gardening or walking.

Don’t worry; live one day at a time.

Share something every day with someone else; if you live alone, write someone; give something away; help someone else somehow.

Take time to wonder at life and the world; see some humor in life where you can.

Observe the one life in all things.

Be kind to the creatures.

Easy enough, don’t ya’ think?

Let the world know you as you are, not as you think you should be, because sooner or later, if you are posing, you will forget the pose, and then where are you?

Bookworm Linky-Linkies

June 17, 2008

 While at the library with the kids last week I came across some wonderful picture books by Stella Blackstone which Sister just loved! Here is one of them:  This particular book was about shapes. It was short, sweet, and gently taught all about shapes. Neat! This series of books is sold by the Barefoot Books company. They sell some really neat books and I requested a catalog from them, which I can use to select even more great books from the library.

 Next, here’s a link to my new very favorite children’s picture book. This book is soooooo wonderful! The story is actually like a long poem and the message is truly uplifting. The author, Michael Tyler, notes on the inside flap, that this book (which won a Mom’s Choice Award in 2005) is intended for ages: never too young and never too old. Trust me, you’ll like this one just as much as the kiddos! I think I’ll buy this one for our home library.

…we “timeless” complainers have attempted in vain to stretch time, buy time, save time, stop time, find time, and beat time. We are even foolish enough to think we can manage time. You don’t and won’t do any of these and you don’t make time either (wow, what a commodity if you could manufacture time and sell it!). We have only one alternative here, there is only one single thing we can do with time and that is use it. We can’t manage time but we can manage our own behavior and activities to use it wisely. ~Don Aslett (pp. 1-2 from his book How to Have a 48-Hour Day)

Here’s hoping that you use your time wisely today!
